Report: Yankees recall catcher Sanchez

New York's No. 3 prospect amassed 16 hits, 10 RBIs in last 10 games
May 12, 2016

The Yankees have surged amid a recent flurry of injuries, and on Thursday, they reportedly added another sparkplug.

New York called up catcher Gary Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for his second Major League stint, news that was first reported by RailRiders beat writer Shane Hennigan.

A Yankees spokesman said the club had not made an announcement.

Sanchez has hit .280 with five homers for the RailRiders this season, but has gotten stronger of late. The Yankees' third-ranked prospect collected 16 hits, three long balls and 10 RBIs in his last 10 games, including going 2-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday.

Last September, Sanchez made his Major League debut when the Yankees called him up on Sept. 12. MLB.com's No. 55 overall prospect went 0-for-2 over two games to close out the campaign.

The 23-year-old is in his seventh season in the organization since the Yankees signed him as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2009 out of the Dominican Republic.
