Columbus Outslugs Louisville to take Game and Series

Comeback kids do it again for 11th time this season
May 15, 2016

After Louisville (20-16) raced out to a 5-0 lead after four innings thanks to three home runs, the never say die attitude of the Columbus Clippers (23-13) carried them all the way back and then some to capture a 12-8 win at Huntington Park on Sunday afternoon in front of a electric crowd of 7,402.

Clippers catcher Guillermo Quiroz homered just as he did in last night's 8-6 loss, a two-run homer to the bleachers in left field in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-2.

After Louisville plated a run in the top of the sixth, the slugfest continued the next inning in the Arena District, as back-to-back home runs by Joey Butler and Quiroz made it a 6-5 game, and Ronny Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to 17 games in clutch fashion with an RBI single to center field scoring Bryson Myles from second base to tie the game.

Louisville took the lead back in the eighth, scoring two runs with two outs, but then the Clippers exclaimed that they weren't going quietly, as they would pound out six runs in the bottom of the inning, capped off by Ronny Rodriguez's triple with the bases loaded and a throwing error that sent him home from third, giving his team a 12-8 win.

Columbus starter in Will Roberts would end up throwing six innings, allowing six earned runs on eleven hits. He walked a pair of batters and struck out three.

Louisville righty Jon Moscot went five innings, giving up two earned runs on two hits, walking three and punching out four.

Toru Murata (2-1) picked up the win for the Clippers while Stephen Johnson (0-2) took the loss for the Bats.

Columbus will hit the road for seven games beginning tomorrow night at Victory Field in Indianapolis as the Clippers and Indians start a four game series with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
