Neftali Soto Named Eastern League Player of the Week
HARRISBURG, PA. - The Eastern League announced today that Harrisburg Senators' DH/1B Neftali Soto has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 9th - May 15th. The Senators' slugger is the first Harrisburg position player to win player of the week honors this season.
Soto hit .387 (12-for-31) with two home runs and 13 RBIs. He had two six-RBI games during the week. On Tuesday at Richmond, he drove in six with two singles and a three-run home run. On Friday the 13th against Akron, he drove in six more runs with a single, double, and a grand slam. For the week he had two three-hit games and two two-hit games. He had at least one hit in six of the seven games.
Soto was originally selected in the 3rd round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He made it to the big leagues in the Reds organization, making his debut on May 18, 2013 against Philadelphia. After the debut, he went on to play in 34 games in 2013 and 2014 for the Reds. For the season he's batting .273 with three home runs and 21 RBIs. He was signed by the Nationals as a minor league free agent on February 8, 2016.
