Andino stings former club in Z's win
Robert Andino went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to back six strong innings from Paul Clemens as the New Orleans Zephyrs claimed a second straight win over the Albuquerque Isotopes, 8-1 on Friday night.
A veteran of 305 games in an Isotopes uniform more than a decade ago, Andino clubbed the Zephyrs' third home run in a four-run fifth inning and added an RBI triple in the seventh. He also singled in the first inning, and needed a double in his final at-bat in the ninth to hit for the cycle, but settled for another single to cap a four-hit night.
After Albuquerque grabbed the lead in the fourth when Brandon Barnes laced a two-out single and scored on a triple by Ben Paulsen, the Zephyrs rediscovered the long ball to answer back in the fifth.
New Orleans entered the game having hit just nine home runs in May, second-fewest in the Pacific Coast League, but Matt Juengel led off the fifth with his first Triple-A homer of the year, and Isaac Galloway followed with his third to put the Z's in front. It was the second time this season the Zephyrs hit back-to-back home runs.
Andino's two-run shot put the Z's ahead 4-1, and Destin Hood led off the sixth with his team-leading ninth homer of the year. One out later, Juengel tripled to left-center and scored on Galloway's sacrifice fly.
The eight-run outburst was more than enough for Clemens (4-3), who threw 60 of his 86 pitches for strikes and limited the Isotopes to one run and five hits in six innings. Clemens has allowed one or no runs in three of his last five outings and won for the first time since April 29.
Harrison Musgrave (0-1) took the loss in his Triple-A debut, surrendering six runs in six innings.
The Z's go in search of a third straight win on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
