Jeremy Cruz joins Kernels
Cruz, 24, was selected by the Angels in the 13th round of the 2009 Free Agent Draft out of Stetson University and played 69 games for the Kernels in 2010, batting .289 with 7 HR and 41 RBI.
Blackburn played in six games for the Kernels this year, hitting .200 (4-20) with a double.
Cruz will join the team in Clinton today and be available for tonight's 6:30 pm game with the Lumber Kings. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at 25 active players, the MWL maximum, with one player currently on the disabled list.
Cedar Rapids continues their commuter series against Clinton tonight and Wednesday with both games starting at 6:30 pm from Alliant Energy Field in Clinton. The Kernels return home on Thursday, April 21st to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium and open a six-game, seven-day home stand with games against Quad Cities and Kane County. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The current home stand continues through Thursday.
