Mora walk-off home run sinks Erie in extras
Angelo Mora hit a walk-off two-run home run against Jose Valdez (2-1) to give the Fightin Phils (31-15) a 7-5 win over the Erie SeaWolves (18-27). It was the second-straight game with a walk-off home run for Reading.
Erie grabbed a 1-0 lead off Anthony Vasquez in the top of the second inning as Tyler Bortnick hit a sacrifice fly to score Dean Green. The SeaWolves scored two more runs off Vasquez in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Jeff McVaney hit a RBI triple then scored on a ground-out by JaCoby Jones.
Gustavo Nunez hit a RBI single off Vasquez int he top of the sixth inning to give Erie a 4-0 lead. Vasquez would leave the game after six innings as he gave up 12 hits with one walk and six strikeouts. The last time he gave up 12 hits was June 18, 2011 when he was with the Jackson Generals.
The Fightin Phils cut Erie's lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning as Dylan Cozens hit a three-run home run off Anthony Fernandez with two outs. Mario Hollands struck out three batters in 1 2/3 innings in relief of Vasquez.
Jake Fox hit a two-run double with two outs off SeaWolves reliever Ruben Alaniz in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Reading a 5-4 lead. JaCoby Jones tied the game at 5-5 off Gregory Infante in the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run.
Hoby Milner tossed two scoreless innings in relief as he issued just one walk with three strikeouts. Joely Rodriguez (1-0) entered the game in the top of the 11th inning. He pitched scoreless inning with one strikeout to earn his first win of the season.
