Getting to Four Winds Field This Summer
SOUTH BEND, IN - Officials for the South Bend Cubs want fans to know in spite of several downtown street closures from the Smart Streets project, Four Winds Field remains accessible from most of its usual points of entry.
"We're still easy to access, fans will just need to do a little pre-planning and, depending on the route they choose, allow for some adjustments to their normal travel time," said Joe Hart, President of the South Bend Cubs. "All of our parking lots remain open as well as all of the major roads that lead to Four Winds Field-specifically Lafayette, Western and South Main streets."
Only two minor access points to the stadium are closed-one block of both South and Bronson streets between Lafayette and Main-all of the other roads near the stadium are open. To avoid construction near Memorial Hospital of South Bend, however, fans coming to Four Winds Field from the north are advised to use the primary detour for US 31/33 by taking Douglas Road heading east to Twyckenham Drive, using this to connect to SR 23, which leads to Main and Lafayette streets near the stadium. Secondary detours are marked near the areas which surround Memorial Hospital.
Hart said he expects big crowds around the stadium this weekend thanks to a packed roster of games, including two which honor members of the U.S. military, combined with a favorable forecast.
"Sunday and Monday's games honor our veterans," he said. "We're giving each veteran-active or retired-two tickets. We love filling the stadium this way; it's a fun way to show our appreciation for their service to our country." Hart said veterans simply need to show their military ID at the Box Office to pick up their free tickets. Tickets are still available for Friday, Saturday and Monday's games. Lawn seats are available for Sunday's game.
"We're ready for a great weekend of baseball," he added. "We don't want anyone thinking they'll have trouble getting to us with the construction, so we're spreading the word through the media."
