Three-Run First Inning Does Tourists In

May 31, 2016

HAGERSTOWN, MD-- The bottom of the first inning was the difference maker in Tuesday's Asheville Tourists game versus the Hagerstown Suns. Hagerstown plated all three of their runs in the first and the Tourists never could overcome the deficit. Asheville managed two runs during the game, but a ninth inning rally fell short and the Tourists dropped their second straight by a score of 3-2.

Trey Killian issued a one out walk in the first inning to Max Schrock. Kelvin Gutierrez doubled home Schrock and Rhett Wiseman connected with a two-run Home Run to right. After Wiseman's Home Run, Killian settled into a groove. The Mountain Home, Arkansas native retired the next 19 batters he faced and never dealt with any trouble through the seventh inning.

Hamlet Marte and Sam Hilliard hit back-to-back doubles in the second to plate the Toursits first run. In the sixth, Hilliard and Terry McClure executed a double steal of second and third. Jackson Reetz's throw went into the outfield and Hilliard scored on the play.

The Tourists recorded two-out singles in the seventh and eighth innings but were left on base. In the ninth, Carlos Herrera doubled with two outs to put the tying run at second. Mylz Jones then hit a line drive back up the middle, but Suns shortstop Edwin Lora reached out and made a difficult catch to end the game.

Asheville outhit Hagerstown eight to four but still lost their second straight one-run game. The Tourists will hope to avoid being swept with Wednesday's series finale scheduled for 2:05pm.
