Dean's Two-(Homers)-for-Tuesday give Suns a 6-4 win

Jacksonville caps Trending Tuesday with its 10th win in the last 14 games
June 1, 2016

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Suns designated hitter Austin Dean hit a game-tying home run in the fifth inning and a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning to lift his team to its 10th win in 14 games with a 6-4, series-opening victory over the Montgomery Biscuits in front of 1,783 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Tuesday night.

On Community First Credit Union Two-for-Tuesday, the Biscuits (24-26) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Suns right-hander Chris Mazza with three singles by shortstop Willy Adames, left fielder Patrick Leonard and right fielder Jake Bauers. The visitors scored again on catcher Mike Marjama's fourth-inning solo home run that made it 2-0.

The Suns (24-26) began the bottom of the fourth inning with four straight baserunners - a single by right fielder Moises Sierra, a walk by third baseman Brian Anderson, an RBI single by first baseman Chris Curley, and an infield single by second baseman Peter Mooney. With the bases loaded and a 2-1 Biscuits lead, left-hander Chris Kirsch escaped by inducing a pair of force outs at home plate and another fielder's choice. Suns manager David Berg argued the second force out at home plate and a play at first base in the top of the fifth inning before first base umpire Adam Beck ejected him.

Dean's fifth-inning leadoff home run to left field tied the game, 2-2, and with one out, Sierra doubled, went to third base on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on Anderson's RBI single. The 3-2 lead lasted until the next half inning, when Mazza allowed Bauers' two-run home run and left after a career-high 5 1/3 innings with a 4-3 deficit. That score held until two outs in the sixth inning, when Suns center fielder Yefri Perez tripled to right-center field off right-hander Jeff Ames, and Dean drilled a two-run home run off the left-field video board. Curley added a seventh-inning RBI double to make it 6-4.

Montgomery managed two hits but no runs over the final 3 2/3 innings by Suns right-handers Ryan Chaffee (1-1), Drew Steckenrider and Tyler Kinley, who earned his fourth save.

UP NEXT: The Suns continue the series with Montgomery in a doubleheader at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, when Suns right-hander Jake Esch (6-4) is will face Biscuits right-hander Chih-Wei Hu (2-2) in Game 1, before Suns left-hander Matt Tomshaw and Biscuits right-hander Hunter Wood make their 2016 Southern League debuts in Game 2.
