Tourists Swept Thanks to Schrock's Walk Off Home Run
HAGERSTOWN, MD-- In another close ballgame between the Asheville Tourists and the Hagerstown Suns, the Tourists failed to secure a win thanks to Max Schrock's walk-off two run Home Run in the bottom of the ninth. The Tourists led by a run entering the inning, but the Suns rallied to tie the game and then win it 9-7 on the two-run long ball.
Asheville used a five-run fifth inning to overcome an early 3-0 deficit. Brian Mundell roped an RBI double to left to begin the scoring. Yonathan Daza and Terry McClure each added two-run doubles in the frame.
The two teams traded runs the rest of the way. After Hagerstown scored once in the eighth to cut Asheville's lead to 7-6, the Suns took the momentum heading into the ninth. Cristian Quintin attempted to preserve the lead but after walking the leadoff batter the Tourists reliever was immediately in trouble.
Austin Davidson doubled in the tying run and advanced to third on a fly out to deep left. With Max Schrock at the plate and the winning run at third, Quintin jumped ahead in the count 0-2. The next pitch caught way too much plate and Schrock belted it over the right field wall for the game winning Home Run.
Dylan Craig did not factor in the decision despite departing with the lead after five innings. Hagerstown scored at least one run in six of their nine innings at the plate.
With the loss the Tourists were swept for just the second time this year. They were outscored by the Suns by only four runs total in the three losses. In winning three of four against Kannapolis prior to this series, Asheville finished the road trip 3-4 and head home to face the Greenville Drive on Thursday night.
