Liga MX Soccer Returns to Dell Diamond July 9
AUSTIN, TX - For the second consecutive year, Liga MX soccer returns to the Austin area, presented by Latin Entertainment. This year's friendly is set for Saturday, July 9 and features Mexican Premier League Club León and Club Morelia at Dell Diamond, home of the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 11th. The first match between Chivas and Pachuca in July 2015 was a tremendous success.
León is a Mexican professional football club based in the city of León, in the state of Guanajuato. León won the Primera División title seven times: 1948, 1949, 1952, 1956, 1992, Apertura 2013 and most recently Clausura 2014. They are only the second Liga MX team to win back-to-back championships in short tournaments. León's roster features two players from the Mexican National Team, Luis "Chapo" Montes and José Juan "Gallito" Vásquez. They also have goalkeeper William Yarborough who has been called to defend the United States National Team under manager Jurgen Klinsmann.
In recent years Monarcas Morelia has been one of the main protagonists in the Primera División. Although the team had played Mexican professional football for 70 years, it had never won a first division tournament until winter 2000, when the club raised the cup after beating Toluca on penalties. The Morelia roster features four players from World Cup teams: Pablo Velazquez (Paraguay), Luis Gabriel Rey (Columbia), Cirilo Saucedo (Mexico) and Enrique Perez (Mexico). Morelia finished sixth in league play this season.
Tickets go on sale at 10am on Saturday, June 11th at the Dell Diamond box office, online at TicketsVIP.net and all authorized outlets. On game day, doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the game starts at 7:00 p.m.
