Shuckers and Braves cancelled on Saturday at MGM Park

the game was halted in the middle of the first inning as rains caused unplayable field conditions

BILOXI, MS. - Saturday night's game between the Biloxi Shuckers and Mississippi Braves at MGM Park has been cancelled by rain and unplayable field conditions. The game will not been rescheduled as the clubs will not meet again in the first half.

Fans with a ticket to Saturday's game may exchange it for a ticket of equal value, based on seating availability, for any future 2016 regular season, non-restricted Biloxi Shuckers home game which excludes July 4. Exchanges are accepted exclusively at the MGM Park Box Office.

Mississippi (25-19) took an early 2-0 advantage on a two-out RBI double by Dustin Peterson to score Dansby Swanson from first base. Jacob Schrader followed with an infield single to third, but an errant throw by Javier Betancourt bounced off of the tarp in foul territory, allowing Peterson to score.

The teams were ready to go for the bottom half of the inning with Victor Mateo tossing a first-pitch ball to Brett Phillips, but the sky opened up and crew chief Davie Arrieta made the call for the tarp to come onto the field. After nearly an hour delay, the game was called due to wet grounds for the safety of the players.

Biloxi (30-24) finishes its seven-game homestand with a 3-4 record and remain two games behind the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for first place in the Southern League South after their contest with the Mobile BayBears was washed out on Saturday night.

The Shuckers head to the road for five games to take on the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Brandon Woodruff (1-2, 5.06) looks to build off of his first career Double-A victory in the opener Biloxi, while LHP Chris Kirsch (3-1, 3.75) takes the mound for Montgomery. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m., with coverage starting at 5:15 p.m. on the Biloxi Shuckers' Radio Network's flagship station WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM, Pascagoula's WPMO 1580 AM and the TuneIn Radio app.

The Shuckers return to MGM Park next Friday as the Shuckers host the Chicago White Sox affiliate Birmingham Barons for the first time in Biloxi. On Friday, June 10th, all fans 21-and-over receive a Biloxi Shuckers Cooler Bag courtesy Bud Light. Saturday, June 11th Post-Game Fireworks will follow the game. Sunday, June 12th is McDonald's -Family Fun Day and celebrate Father's Day early with Little Princess Night, featuring a pre-game Princess Parade and in-game activities. Tuesday, June 14th is Gulfport Community Night.
