Pitchers announced for 2016 MWL Home Run Derby, presented by Collins Community Credit Union

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels announce that local college coaches Jack Dahm, Desi Druschel and Jay Whannel will be the pitchers for the 2016 Midwest League All-Star Game Home Run Derby, presented by Collins Community Credit Union.

Jack Dahm is the head baseball coach at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids. He was named Mount Mercy's head coach in June of 2014. Prior to that, he coached at the University of Iowa, where led the Hawkeyes to the Big Ten Tournament three times, and at Creighton University.

Desi Druschel is the Director of Baseball Operations at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. During his first year at Iowa, he led the Hawkeyes to 41 wins and an at-large berth in the NCAA regionals for the first time since 1990. Druschel was also the head coach at The Franciscan University (now Ashford University) and an assistant coach at Mount St. Clare College, Indiana University and Vinton-Shellsburg HS.

Jay Whannel is an assistant coach for Coe College in Cedar Rapids and has been with the Kohawks since the fall of 2009. He played professional baseball for the independent Pensacola Pelicans and Schaumburg Flyers. Prior to Coe, he coached six years in the NAIA and Junior College ranks.

The 2016 Midwest League All-Star Game Home Run Derby will feature three East All-Stars and three West All-Stars (rosters TBA) and will take place on Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium between 5:30 and 6:30 PM on Tuesday, June 21^st. Gates for the All-Star Game open at 5:00 PM.
