Indians turn first triple play in 91 years

July 30, 2005
The Spokane Indians turned their first triple play in nearly a century on Friday night in a Northwest League game against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Salem-Keizer already scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead and had runners at first and third with none out. Reliever Nathan Fogle struck out Andy Busch and catcher Benjamin Crabtree threw to second baseman David Peterson to nail Jose Yens trying to steal.

Mark Minicozzi broke for the plate, but Peterson gunned him out to complete the triple play.

Spokane's last triple play occurred on May 9, 1914. This was the second triple play turned in the Northwest League this season. On July 6, The Boise Hawks completed one against the Everett AquaSox.

The Indians got an RBI single from Phillip Hawke in the bottom of the 10th inning to pull out a 5-4 victory.
