Missions score 4 in 8th, knock off Frisco

Felix, Paisano, Ruiz notch RBIs in loss
April 25, 2011
San Antonio scored four times in the eighth inning to pull away from the RoughRiders 7-3 Monday night at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium in the opener of Frisco's eight-game road trip.

With the game tied, Corey Young (0-2) came out of the bullpen and only retired one of the eight batters he faced. After two walks and a throwing error loaded the bases, the Missions took the lead on a Blake Tekotte two-run single. Two batters later, Sawyer Carroll's two-run double gave San Antonio some insurance.

The RoughRiders (6-11) had erased an early 3-0 deficit with single tallies in the second, fourth and sixth innings. Jose Felix, David Paisano and Jose Ruiz each drove in a run. Frisco's best chance to take the lead came in the sixth, when Tekotte threw out Tommy Mendonca at the plate as Mendonca tried to score on a fly out.

San Antonio pounced on the reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Week Martin Perez in the first. The Missions notched three consecutive RBI doubles. After that, though, Perez settled down and pitched through the fourth inning. He struck out four and walked four. Perez's earned run average now sits at 2.65 through four starts.

Frisco reliever Adalberto Flores tossed three scoreless innings. The righty allowed only one base hit and struck out three.

The Missions (11-6) have won four straight and remain in first place in the South Division.

Game two of this four-game series begins at 11:05 Tuesday morning. Frisco will send right-hander Jake Brigham to the mound. Pre-game coverage along the RoughRiders Baseball Network begins at 10:35.
