MiLB announces May Players of the Month

Each league winner will receive an award from Minor League Baseball

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida. -- Minor League Baseball today announced the Player of the Month Award winners for each of the 10 full season leagues for the month of May. Each winner will receive an award from Minor League Baseball in recognition of the honor.

Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays) left-hander Wade LeBlanc went 3-0 with an International League leading 0.70 ERA in six May starts. LeBlanc allowed three earned runs in his first start before going five straight starts (33.0 innings) without allowing an earned run to finish the month. LeBlanc, 31, was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama.

Las Vegas 51s (Mets) third baseman T.J. Rivera batted .373 in May with five home runs and 31 RBI. His 47 hits and 31 RBI led the Pacific Coast League, while his 69 total bases were tied for second in the league. Rivera, 27, was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent out of Troy University in 2011.

Reading Fightin Phils (Phillies) outfielder Dylan Cozens led the Eastern League in home runs (nine), RBI (26), extra-base hits (19) and total bases (70) in May. He recorded eight multi-hit games and hit in 11 straight games from May 7-18. Cozens, 22, was originally selected by the Phillies in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Jackson Generals (Mariners) outfielder Tyler O'Neill led the Southern League in hits (38), extra-base hits (18), total bases (65) and doubles (13). O'Neill recorded nine multi-hit games in May and hit in 24 of the 28 games. O'Neill, 20, was selected by the Mariners in the third round of the 2013 draft out of Garibaldi Secondary School in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

Corpus Christi Hooks (Astros) third baseman J.D. Davis led the Texas League in home runs (nine), RBI (25), slugging percentage (.639), extra-base hits (18), total bases (69) and doubles (nine). Davis hit in 12 straight games from May 13-24. Davis, 23, was selected by Houston in the third round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal State-Fullerton.

San Jose Giants (Giants) right-hander Sam Coonrod went 5-0 with a 0.57 ERA in five starts in May. Coonrod allowed just two earned runs and 19 hits over 31.1 innings and held California League opponents to a .179 batting average. Coonrod, 23, was selected by San Francisco in the fifth round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Southern Illinois University.

Frederick Keys (Orioles) right-hander Matthew Grimes went 5-1 with a 1.24 ERA in six starts in May to earn Carolina League Player of the Month honors. Grimes held opponents to a .194 batting average and allowed just 34 baserunners in a league-best 40.1 innings pitched. He allowed just one earned run in his last 28.2 innings. Grimes, 24, was selected by Baltimore in the 15 th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Georgia Tech University.

Tampa Yankees (Yankees) right-hander Chance Adams went 3-0 with a 1.24 ERA in five starts to capture Florida State League Player of the Month honors. Adams allowed just 18 hits and seven walks while striking out 32 over 29.0 innings. He did not allow more than five hits in a start. Adams, 21, was selected by New York in the fifth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Dallas Baptist University.

Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins) right-hander Randy LeBlanc dominated the Midwest League in five May starts, going 4-0 with a 0.24 ERA as he allowed just one run over 37.0 innings. Opponents batted just .185 against LeBlanc, who threw a 94-pitch four- hit shutout against Kane County on May 11. LeBlanc, 24, was recently promoted to Advanced-A Fort Myers and was selected by Minnesota in the 10 th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Tulane University.

Asheville Tourists (Rockies) first baseman Brian Mundell claimed South Atlantic League Player of the Month honors by leading the league in hits (39), doubles (20), extra-base hits (22) and total bases (64). Mundell leads professional baseball with 31 doubles on the year (Boston's David Ortiz is second with 26). Mundell, 22, was selected by Colorado in the seventh round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
