Santana Named MWL All-Star

The 20-year-old pitcher will represent Great Lakes

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons will be sending one member of this year's team to play in the 2016 Midwest League All-Star Game. Right-handed pitcher Dennis Santana was named to the roster by the league on Tuesday.

The Dominican Republic native has appeared in 10 games for the Loons this year, nine of which he was the starter. Santana has struck out 50 batters in 48 2/3 innings of work and is 0-7 on the season. He has allowed 24 runs on 37 hits and has a 2.96 ERA. In his seven losses, the Loons offense has scored a total of 11 runs.

Infielder Michael Ahmed, along with pitchers Grant Holmes and J.D. Underwood were representatives for the Loons at last year's all-star game in Peoria, Ill.

Other notable Loons all-stars since the team's inception include: Clayton Kershaw (2007), Kenley Jansen (2008), Dee Gordon (2009), Jerry Sands (2010), Carlos Frias (2013), Kyle Farmer (2014). The largest number of all-stars the Loons have had in a game is seven in both 2009 and 2010.

The 2016 Midwest League All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, June 21 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
