Sun Shade on the Rise

Dust Devils Baseball About to Become A Lot Cooler
February 26, 2007
The City of Pasco has broken ground on its much-anticipated sun shade structure at Dust Devils Stadium. The 85-foot high shade, scheduled to be in place in time for the Dust Devils' season opener June 24, will ensure almost every seat in the stadium is in the shade by the Dust Devils' standard start time of 7:15 p.m. The shade is expected to reduce temperatures by up to 20 degrees, particularly in the third base stands that were most affected by the sun.

The shade was made possible by a $1 million appropriation by the state of Washington to the City of Pasco for the purpose of upgrades to its stadium. The four other minor league communities in the state also received stadium improvement funds.

"This is a long-wanted improvement to the stadium that, frankly, would not have occurred without the State's financial help," says Pasco City Manager Gary Crutchfield. "We're hopeful that additional state funding this year will allow us to make more seating and other improvements to the stadium next year."

"The legislature has recognized the importance of minor league baseball to the state of Washington, and the Tri-City area state legislators did a wonderful job of making this a priority," says Dust Devils President/General Manager Brent Miles. "The Tri-Cities is fortunate to be one of five communities in the state that enjoy the affordable family entertainment and economic development that minor league baseball provides."

Ticket plans for the 2007 season are on sale now and start at just $30, with full-season tickets available for as low as $199. Special ticket rates are available for groups of 20 or more. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets can be purchased by contacting the Dust Devils front office at (509) 544-8789 or at the Dust Devils Stadium box office.
