Anderson Leads Isotopes to Shutout Victory
Tyler Anderson tossed six scoreless innings tonight to lead the Albuquerque Isotopes (26-33) to a 1-0 win over the Sacramento River Cats (24-36) at Raley Field. The shutout victory was the Isotopes second of the season and allowed them to split their four-game series at Sacramento.
The only run Albuquerque would need came early in the game. Stephen Cardullo continued to be the Isotopes top run-producer, giving the Isotopes a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single to left field. Cardullo has compiled a team-high 32 RBI this season.
Anderson earned his first win at the Triple-A level allowing two hits, two walks, and struck out one. The two hits the left-hander yielded were both infield singles.
Brian Schlitter and Miguel Castro pitched back-to-back scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings, before giving way to Jason Gurka in the ninth. All three outs Gurka recorded were comebackers to the mound as he logged his fourth save of the season.
The Isotopes will have an off day tomorrow before starting a four-game series on Thursday at Isotopes Park vs. the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A Mets). Jeff Hoffman (3-3, 2.67) will go for his second consecutive win for the Isotopes, while Las Vegas will have left-hander Sean Gilmartin (5-3, 4.93) on the hill. Thursday's contest will get underway at 7:05 p.m.
