Emeralds Announce New Ballpark Organist
EUGENE, OR - One of the unique features of PK Park, and the Eugene Emeralds, is a live organist who plays during games. The Emeralds are thrilled to continue this tradition with Elizabeth 'Liz' Wigham behind the keys this summer. Wigham succeeds Jonathan Bilenki as the Emeralds' organist at PK Park.
Wigham is lifelong musician and is currently a pianist for the Eugene Community Orchestra. She owns and operates Sharp Accompaniment, which provides live music for local events and performances throughout Eugene. In recent years, Wigham has done over 30 performances at the Hult Center, but she is ready to make the switch to baseball.
After attending an Ems game with her boys last year, she added playing the organ during a baseball game to her bucket list. When the Emeralds announced their search for a new ballpark organist early last month, Liz was one of the first to respond.
"I see the ballpark organist as being as much of a personality as it is a position. Just as no two individuals alike, no two organists are alike," Wigham explained. "I am hopeful that fans will enjoy and appreciate what I bring to the Ems experience."
Fans should expect a wide variety of music, with Wigham's spontaneous musical humor shining bright throughout the games. The ballpark organist is presented by Ninkasi. Be sure to come out to hear Wigham's first Emeralds game on Opening Night June 17.
The Eugene Emeralds are the short-season Class A team of the Chicago Cubs. In 2015, six of the top 30 Cubs prospects spent time in Eugene including Ian Happ, Donnie Dewees and Eloy Jimenez. With 61 years, the Emeralds are the longest tenured and only founding member remaining in the Northwest League.
