TWO QUAKES NAMED 2016 CAL LEAGUE ALL-STARS

April 6, 2016

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California - June 8, 2016 -

Two Rancho Cucamonga Quakes have been voted to the mid-season California League All-Star Team, as starting pitcher Josh Sborz and outfielder Kyle Garlick have been honored for their outstanding work in the first half, respectively.

Sborz is 5-3 in 11 starts this year for Rancho, with a 2.84 ERA. The right-hander has fanned 60 batters and walked just 13 in a team-high 66 2/3 innings of work. A member of the 2015 Quakes' championship team, Sborz has enjoyed numerous accolades over the last two years. Last season, his Virginia Cavaliers, won the College World Series, with Sborz being named the Series' Most Valuable Player. After being drafted by the Dodgers in the second round of the June draft, Sborz split time between three teams in his first professional season, capping the year with a championship for Rancho Cucamonga. The McLean, Virginia native will be the only active Quake on the Cal League's roster.

Barring a return from Double-A Tulsa of the Texas League, Garlick will miss the All-Star Game, after posting some eye-popping numbers over the first two months of the season. In 49 games, the Chino Hills native cracked a team-high 11 home runs and drove in a team-leading 37 runs, which still leads the club, despite his promotion to Double-A on May 30th. The former Oregon Duck and Cal Poly Pomona Bronco hit .306 in his time with the Quakes and was near the top of the leader-board in a number of different offensive categories before his promotion.

The California League All-Stars will take on the Carolina League All-Stars on Tuesday, June 21st at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, as this year's event will be hosted by the Lake Elsinore Storm, with the Cal League celebrating its 75th year. Tickets are available by visiting StormBaseball.com.
