Chris Ibarra joins Kernels from Lincoln Saltdogs
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that INF Chris Ibarra has been signed to a minor league contract by the Twins from the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent American Association, and assigned to the Kernels. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
Ibarra was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 32nd round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft out of LSU, but did not sign. He was an undergraduate assistant at LSU and played two seasons in the American Association with Amarillo and Lincoln. In 77 games, he hit .304 with 13 HR and 35 RBI.
Ibarra is active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game vs. Kane County. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with six players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.
The Kernels wrap up a six game, seven-day home stand tonight at 6:35 PM vs. Kane County.
