Bees Come Up Short in Series Finale

Bees tie season high with 15 hits in loss to Peoria

(Burlington-IA) - The Burlington Bees (29-31) cranked out 15 hits in a 6-4 loss to the Peoria Chiefs (33-27) in the series finale on Thursday night at Community Field.

Peoria opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. With one out, Edmundo Sosa singled off the glove of Bees starting pitcher Jaime Barria. The next hitter, Eliezer Alvarez tripled to left center, scoring Sosa, giving the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Peoria added another run on a Bees error, making the score 2-0.

After falling behind 3-0 in the second, the Bees went on to score three runs in their half of the second. With two outs, Michael Hermosillo singled and then scored on a Webster Rivas double, cutting the Chiefs lead to 3-1. Jake Yacinich then pulled the Bees to within a run with a single to center, scoring Rivas. Jared Foster then tied the game with a double to left, scoring Yacinich. 

Peoria answered quickly, scoring a pair of runs in the third inning. With the bases empty and one out, Brian O'Keefe doubled to left and then moved to third on a RJ Dennard single. With runners at second and third and one out and the infield drawn in, Jose Godoy singled to center, scoring a wait of runs, putting the Chiefs in front 5-3. 

After Peoria added another run in the sixth, the Bees would try to rally in the ninth. With two outs, Jared Foster tripled to left center. Brendon Sanger then shot a double to right, scoring Foster. The Bees would come no closer, losing 6-4.

Peoria starter Derian Gonzalez (4-0) earned the win while Bees starter Jaime Barria (5-4) was charged with the loss. Tyler Bray (3) earned the save for Peoria. The Bees welcome in the Quad Cities River Bandits for game one of a three game series Friday night at 6:30 for Star Wars Night.
