White Sox promote shortstop Anderson

Chicago's No. 2 prospect set for MLB debut; veteran Rollins DFA'd
June 10, 2016

The White Sox promoted No. 2 prospect Tim Anderson from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday morning, potentially signaling a new era for the team's infield.

Chicago announced that Anderson, 22, will join the club for his Major League debut after veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins was designated for assignment. The team also said he will wear No. 12 in the Majors.

Anderson, Chicago's first-round pick in the 2013 Draft, was hitting .304 with four homers, 20 RBIs, 11 stolen bases and a .325 on-base percentage in 55 games with Charlotte this season.

"Something I been working for my whole life and I couldn't be more thankful, humble and excited for this opportunity," Anderson said on Twitter. "Thanks to [the] man above."

Anderson, MLB.com's No. 42 overall prospect, put together a big May, hitting .349 in 29 games and as of Friday had at least two hits in 20 of his last 32 games.

"I try not to pay too much attention to the numbers," Anderson told MiLB.com on May 27. "Every time at bat, I just feel very confident and I believe in myself. Every time I go up there, I feel like I'm going to get a hit or do something positive. I feel real great in the box."

Rollins, the 2007 National League MVP, is the third player to be DFA'd this season by the White Sox, who have lost 20 of their last 27 games. Chicago also designated veterans Mat Latos and John Danks earlier this season.

The 37-year-old Rollins was hitting .221 with two homers and eight RBIs in 149 at-bats. He had just eight hits in his last 15 games before the White Sox made the move Friday.

For Anderson, the opportunity comes nearly three years to the day after he was selected No. 17 overall in the Draft. The 2015 Southern League All-Star raked in several honors and awards last summer, earning nods for "best hustler" and "best utility player" from Birmingham while also winning the Top Star award at the Southern League All-Star Game. He was more recently named the International League's Player of the Week on May 15 of this season.

The right-handed infielder appeared in 18 Spring Training games with the White Sox earlier this year, hitting .333 (7-for-21) with four RBIs and four runs scored. He hit .312 with five homers and 46 RBIs in 125 Double-A games last year, and in 331 career Minor League games, he's batted .301 with 19 homers and 127 RBIs.

"I'm just very confident in myself and I know what I'm capable of," the Alabama native said. "I'm performing the way that I expect myself and that I've performed in the past."
