Rancho Cucamonga runs away with nine runs in the second inning

April 29, 2011
(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - For the second straight night, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes battered JetHawks pitching. They scored nine times in the second inning and held on the rest of the way, winning 13-6. The Quakes (12-9) salvaged a split in the series after the JetHawks (10-11) won the first two games of the four-game set.

Poor control hurt the JetHawks pitching staff early. Starter Jose Cisnero struck out three batters in the first inning but walked three in the second. He also allowed three hits, surrendering seven runs before being pulled without recording an out. Reliever Wander Alvino struggled to find a rhythm as well allowing two more walks and six hits, leading to five more runs. Lancaster trailed 12-0 after three innings before Mike Ness and Jose Trinidad restored order out of the pen.

The JetHawks outscored the Quakes in the middle and late innings. Kody Hinze got the team on the scoreboard with a RBI single in the fifth inning. The biggest frame was the sixth. Jonathan Villar tripled to plate two runs, followed by a Jose Altuve single as Lancaster scored three in the inning.

Grant Hogue and Jordan Comadena would add RBI hits in the seventh and ninth innings respectively. Austin Wates kept the team's longest hit streak alive. With a single in the seventh, Wates has now hit safely in ten straight games.
