Ynoa Makes Major League Debut

June 15, 2016

BELOIT, Wisc.- Another former Snapper made their debut in the Majors on Tuesday night. Michael Ynoa pitched two hitless innings for the Chicago White Sox in a 11-8 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Ynoa walked two Tigers and also struck out two.

Ynoa was a member of the 2013 Beloit Snappers team who ended up falling to the eventual Midwest league champions, the Quad Cities River Bandits, in the Western Division Finals. He was also a Midwest League All-Star that year. While in Beloit, Ynoa had a record of 2-1 with an ERA of 2.14 in 54.2 innings pitched.

The documentary, "Ballplayer: Pelotero" focused slightly on Ynoa with one of the main focuses being on another former Snapper and current Minnesota Twin, Miguel Sano. The film focuses on the controversial signing periods of young talent from the Dominican Republic that are trying to make it to the Major Leagues. In the documentary, it shows the 6'7" righty was a highly sought after pitching prospect. Enough so, that the Oakland Athletics signed him for $4.25 million, which was a new record for Oakland.

The Oakland Athletics traded Ynoa after the 2014 season in a deal that sent him and Jeff Samardzija to the Chicago White Sox in a deal in which the A's received Marcus Semien, Chris Bassitt, Rangel Ravelo, and Josh Phegley.

Ynoa is now the 193rd player to appear in the Big Leagues that used to wear a Beloit Professional Baseball jersey.

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and are a fourth year Class-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics.
