Raptors Drop Season Opener At Idaho Falls

June 18, 2016

IDAHO FALLS - Ogden (0-1) fell behind early, falling 8-2 in the 2016 season opener at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls.

"I thought we played really good defense," said first-year manager Shaun Larkin. "But our pitching wasn't as crisp as we'd like to see it."

Six Ogden pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters, but also issued nine walks and threw four wild pitches. Idaho Falls scored in five on eight innings, beginning with three runs in the first two innings. The Chukars managed to load the bases without a single hit in the second. The Raptors got on the board in the fourth inning when Ibandel Isabel singled home Gersel Pitre.

Idaho Falls tacked on three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 6-1. Carlos Aquino tripled and Mitchell Hansen singled him home in the eighth inning for the Raptor's final run. The Chukars added two more runs in the bottom half of the inning and sent Ogden down in order in the ninth to close out the game.

Roberth Fernandez (0-1) took the loss after earning the start and throwing the first three innings. Arnaldo Hernandez (1-0) scattered three hits and one run over five innings to pick up the win.

The same two teams face off again Saturday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:15pm MT. Pregame coverage begins at 7:00pm on the Ogden Raptors Baseball Network on TuneIn.
