March 1, 2007
FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno Fuego officially announced today that Scott Alcorn has been hired as the team's new Head Coach and J.J. Wozniak joins him as the Assistant Coach.

"I'm excited to be offered this opportunity to join the Fuego organization as head coach," said Scott Alcorn. "My goal is to create a competitive team from local talent in our region and one that the community can relate to. I also hope to develop a relationship between our players and local soccer youth programs by holding off-season training camps throughout the Central Valley."

Alcorn has over 20 years of coaching experience in soccer, most recently as Head Coach of the California-North State Team in the Olympic Development Program (2001-present). Currently, Alcorn is also the Men's Director of Coaching for the California Odyssey Soccer Club and was a Coach of the Boy's Odyssey Club (2002-2005), Co-Head Coach of the Fresno City College Men's team (1996-1998) and Head Coach of the Buchanan High School Men's team (1995-1997). Alcorn also received the United States Soccer Federation's top license in 1999. The Fresno native also played soccer for 20 years on various State teams as well as in the Semi-Pro Premier Men's League and was a two-time Valley Champion at Hoover High School.

As the new Assistant Coach of the Fuego, Wozniak also brings valuable experience as a coach and a former player. His coaching career began as the Assistant Goalkeeper Coach at Fresno State (2000-2003) where he also graduated and played soccer. Since then he has coached prospective youth players in the Olympic Development Program (2004-2007) and is currently the Director of Coaching for the California Odyssey Soccer Club (2003-present). As a player, Wozniak played at the collegiate level for five years (1992-1997), then turned professional (1997-2001) and played on various teams including, Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy and San Jose Clash.

"We feel that Scott and J.J.'s experience will be a valuable asset to the success of our organization," said Brian Glover, General Partner of the Fresno Soccer Club, LLC. "Although we will miss having Jaime Ramirez, we are confident that this coaching change will benefit the team and its future."
