Rangers' pitcher Doyle suspended

Myrtle Beach right-hander disciplined after second violation
May 2, 2011
Former Rangers fourth-round pick Andrew Doyle will miss his next 50 games after violating the Minor League drug program for a second time.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced Monday that Doyle, Texas' fourth-round pick in 2009, has received a 50-game suspension after a second violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for a drug of abuse.

It was not disclosed what substance Doyle, 23, tested positive for. The Oklahoma product's suspension is effective immediately.

Doyle had appeared in five games with Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach, most recently coming out of the bullpen for two innings on April 28, after making one appearance with Class A Hickory.

He was 1-1 with 15 strikeouts and a 4.50 ERA over 12 innings in six outings this year.

Under the Minor League program, players who test positive for a drug of abuse are issued a warning after their first violation. A second positive test carries a 50-game ban.

Doyble is the 22nd Minor Leaguer to be suspended in 2011.
