Phillies starting pitcher to make rehab start for the Fightins at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday
June 21, 2016

Right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez will begin his major league rehab assignment when he starts for the Reading Fightin Phils on Wednesday night. He has been out of action since June 8 with a strained right biceps.

In 12 starts this season, Velasquez has gone 5-2 with a 3.65 ERA with 73 strikes to 22 walks. The 24-year old famously struck out a career-high 16 batters in a complete game shutout in mid-April, becoming the seventh pitcher in major league history to throw a shutout with at least 16 strikeouts and no walks.

Velasquez was acquired last December as part of the Ken Giles trade with Houston.

Single game ticket for the Fightin Phils 50th season affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies are available now by visiting Fightins.com, by calling 610-370-BALL, or by stopping by the Fightins Ticket Office located at FirstEnergy Stadium.
