Dillon Overton To Make MLB Debut Saturday

2014 Lake Monster Scheduled To Start For Oakland Athletics
June 24, 2016

BURLINGTON, VT --- The Oakland Athletics are expected to purchase the contract of left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton and start the 2014 Vermont Lake Monster against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night in Anaheim. With the start, Overton will become the 82nd former Lake Monster to reach the Major Leagues all-time and the first from the 2014 Vermont team.

Overton was the second-round pick of the Oakland A's in the 2013 draft out of the University of Oklahoma, but did not make his professional debut until 2014 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. Overton started five games for the Lake Monsters in 2014 and tossed three innings in each of the five appearances, finishing with one walk, 22 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA in the 15 innings.

After going 7-6 with a 3.43 ERA in 27 games combined for Single-A Stockton and Double-A Midland last season, Overton began the 2016 with the Nashville Sounds where he was 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA and had 22 walks, 72 strikeouts in 83 2/3 innings. That includes 7-0 with a 1.40 ERA (seven ER in 45 innings) in his last seven Triple-A starts.

Along with being the 82nd former Vermont player to reach Majors all-time, Overton will be the 17th on a Major League roster this season. For a complete list of former Lake Monsters in the Majors, click here.
