Losing Streak Reaches Nine as Isotopes Fall 5-2
The Salt Lake Bees handed the Isotopes their ninth consecutive loss on Saturday at Isotopes Park, defeating Albuquerque 5-2. The Isotopes were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but the rally would fall short.
With the loss, the Isotopes are now just one defeat away from matching a franchise-low 10-game losing streak, set in 2011.
Kyle Freeland took the loss for the Isotopes in his Triple-A debut. The 23-year-old left-hander allowed five runs (four earned) on 11 hits over his 6.0 innings on the hill, striking out five and walking two. Freeland is ranked as the Rockies number six prospect by Baseball America.
Freeland exited the ball game with zero run support, as the only runs that crossed the plate for the Isotopes came in the bottom of the ninth inning. Noel Cuevas and Joey Wong each knocked home a run in the frame. Representing the tying run, Rafael Ynoa was not able to keep the rally going and struck out to end the contest.
The Isotopes and Bees are back in action tomorrow night from Isotopes Park when right-hander Shane Carle takes the hill for Glenallen Hill's squad. Salt Lake will counter with southpaw David Huff. First pitch from Isotopes Park is set for 6:05 p.m.
