Grizzlies fall 1-0 to the Rainiers Saturday night
The Fresno Grizzlies saw their five-game winning streak end Saturday night at the hands of the Tacoma Rainiers 1-0. Tacoma starter Cody Martin (6-5) picked up the win after he impressed for seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four in the process. Fresno starter Mike Hauschild (5-7) suffered the loss after he twirled seven innings of one-run ball. He gave up six hits and struck out three on the night.
The Rainiers scored in the top of the fifth when Guillermo Heredia knocked a RBI single to left. The only run of the night was sealed in the ninth by Tacoma reliever Casey Coleman. After loading the bases, he struck out Matt Duffy to secure a victory.
Fresno reliever Jordan Jankowski hurled one and two-third innings, striking out three.
Over the course of his last two starts (both versus Tacoma), Hauschild has thrown 14 innings, allowing 13 hits, one run (earned), walking one and punching out nine. He has one no-decision and one loss in that span.
The Grizzlies dropped to 15-12 in one-run affairs and 10-10 in the first game of the series. Fresno also tied their lowest hit total of the year with three combined hits. This was the fifth instance and the first since June 12 against Salt Lake.
Fresno looks to even the series in game two of the four-game set Sunday night at Chukchansi Park from Downtown Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PT. Tacoma LHP Brad Mills (3-2, 4.24) toes the rubber with Fresno LHP Tommy Shirley (5-4, 4.97).
