Strong Start by Weigel Leads Rome to Win

The Rome Braves (3-1) topped the Charleston Riverdogs (2-2) Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium by a final score of 11-5. Rome's starter Patrick Weigel pitched six innings scattering seven hits, allowing three runs and striking out six.

 

After Charleston took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second, the Braves cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame with three runs thanks to a three run shot by Wigberto Navarez (1). Rome scored twice more in the third on back to back run scoring doubles by Austin Riley and Luke Dykstra making it a 5-1 game. The Braves added a run in the fifth and five runs in the sixth en route to the 11-5 final.         

 

Weigel (5-3) gets the victory while Charleston starter Domingo German (0-1) is tagged with the loss.
