Hawkins' Hot Streak Continues in Loss

MOBILE, AL -- Outfielder Courtney Hawkins continued his torrid post All-Star Game pace with a 3-for-3 night that included two doubles and four RBIs, but the Birmingham Barons fell by an 8-5 final score to the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Hawkins, 22, was named the Southern League's Player of the Week earlier today, and finished the Barons five game set with a .571 batting average (12-for-21). The White Sox no. 9 prospect posted four doubles, two home runs, and nine RBIs to raise his batting average 48 points in five games.
Keenyn Walker came around to score the Barons first run off a Hawkins double in the first inning, but BayBears slugger Kevin Cron countered with a grand slam in the home half of the frame to put the Barons in an early 4-1 deficit.
Eddy Alvarez came around to score on another Hawkins double for the Barons second run, before a wild pitch and a single from Hawkins put Birmingham within one run.
On the mound Barons starter James Dykstra gave up six runs in four innings of work, taking the loss after allowing eight hits.
Robinson Leyer inherited a 6-5 deficit and allowed two runs on four hits in two innings of work, finishing his appearance with two strikeouts. Andre Wheeler worked two scoreless innings in relief, finishing the game while allowing just two hits and adding one strikeout.
Southpaw Jordan Guerrero will take the hill in the series opener against Biloxi Wednesday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Regions Field.
