Fisher Cats Sweep Phillies With 10-5 Win

May 5, 2011

(Reading, PA)-Moises Sierra homered and drove in four runs and B.J. LaMura earned the win as the Fisher Cats completed a three-game sweep of Reading with a 10-5 win on Thursday morning.

The win was the fourth straight for New Hampshire (15-9) on the roadtrip, and moves the club back into a first-place tie with the Phillies (16-10).

The Fisher Cats picked up three runs in the top of the first inning.  Anthony Gose reached on an error, Darin Mastroianni walked, and Sierra (1-for-4, HR, 4 RBI) blasted a three-run homer off Reading starter J.C. Ramirez to make it 3-0.

Reading came right back in the bottom of the first to cut the lead.  Freddy Galvis and Matt Miller drew walks, moving up on a passed ball.  Galvis scored on a ground out by Matt Rizzotti and Miller scored on a single by Carlos Rivero to cut the New Hampshire lead to 3-2.

The Fisher Cats put three more runs on the board in the top of the third inning.  Gose walked, was balked to second and moved to third on a fielders choice by Mastroianni.  Sierra then picked up his fourth RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.  Mike McDade reached on an error, scoring Mastroianni.  And after Mark Sobolewski walked, John Tolisano doubled to make it 6-2.

Matt Rizzotti hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, with one out in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead to 6-3.

Reading added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to close to within 6-5.  Galvis tripled in the fifth and scored on a Matt Miller ground out.  Miller singled home Fidel Hernandez in the last of the seventh inning.

In the top of the eighth inning, McDade hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot off Phillies reliever Tyson Brummett to make it 7-5.

The Fisher Cats added three more runs in the top of the ninth inning.  Adeiny Hechavarria reached on an error and Gose walked.  Mastroianni bunted the runners into scoring position.  After McDade was intentionally walked, Sobolewski plated two with a single and Tolisano (2-for-5, 2 RBI) followed with an RBI single to make it 10-5.

LaMura (2-1) worked five innings, allowing four hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out one.  Clint Everts worked a perfect sixth before yielding the Miller RBI single in the seventh.  Evan Crawford retired the four batters he faced, including a strikeout of Rizzotti with the tying run on base to end the seventh inning.  Alan Farina worked a perfect ninth inning.

Reading starter Ramirez (4-1), who entered the game unbeaten in his first four starts with a 1.03 ERA, left after 2.2 innings in which he gave up six runs, three earned, on two hits.

New Hampshire returns to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium tomorrow (Friday, May 6) at 6:35pm to take on the Binghamton.  RHP Joel Carreno (0-3, 6.56) is the scheduled starter for the Fisher Cats against Mets southpaw Mark Cohoon (1-2, 2.70).  An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the game.
