Good Pitching Does In Yankees

May 5, 2011
Tampa, FL. - The Tampa Yankees took on the Daytona Cubs Thursday afternoon, and wrapped up their three game series. Over 2000 kids from different Tampa Bay area schools piled into the stadium, but they left disappointed as the Cubs completed their three game sweep with a 5-0 victory. Starting on the mound for the Yankees was Josh Romanski (2-2, 2.08 ERA) and Doug Davis (1-0, 0.00 ERA) started for the Cubs.

Daytona got on the board right away in the first inning when Junior Lake hit a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence to lead off the game.

The Cubs added another run in the top of the third when Lake led off the inning with a single and advance to second on a single from David Macias. Jae-Hoon Ha grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners on the corners with one out. Justin Bour hit a sacrifice fly to left to bring home Lake, giving Daytona a 2-0 lead.

Daytona tallied one more in the top of the fifth. With one out Macias singled and advanced to second on a groundout. Romanski was lifted from the game and finished with 4 and two thirds innings pitched, one strikeout, and three earned runs. The T-Yanks turned to Michael Solbach (1-2, 3.33 ERA) who intentionally walked Bour to put runners on first and second. Michael Brenly followed with a single to left bringing home Macias and increasing the lead to 3-0.

Daytona added their final two runs in the top of the sixth when Jake Opitz hit a one out single to center. Luis Flores walked, followed by Lake who hit a triple down the left field line scoring both runners to give the cubs a comfortable lead of 5-0. The final score remained 5-0 as the Yankees couldn't string enough hits together.

The Tampa Yankees travel to Lakeland tomorrow night before returning home Saturday, May 7. On Saturday the T-Yanks are hosting "Pink Out Night" sponsored by Moffit Cancer Center and SerenBe Spa. The team will wear pink pinstripe jerseys, which will be auctioned off during the game. Proceeds will benefit the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. Fans who buy the commemorative jerseys will have the opportunity to go onto the field and get their jersey autographed by the player who wore it.
