Goebbert Delivers Winner In 10th

Bulls Beat Knights 3-2, Move To Within Two In South
June 30, 2016

Charlotte, NC --- Jake Goebbert stroked a single with two outs in the 10th to carry Durham past Charlotte 3-2 on Wednesday night.

Goebbert, who singled in Durham's other two runs in the sixth, drove home pinch-runner Johnny Field after lacing a pitch from Tommy Kahnle to grant the Bulls (36-45) the lead.

Charlotte (38-43) tied the game with two runs in the eighth against reliever Mark Sappington (W, 1-1). Batting with two on and one out, former Bull Jason Bourgeois hit a swinging bunt up the third base line, but Sappington threw wildly past first base to allow both runners to score, tying the game 2-2.

Steve Geltz (S, 3) closed out the win by stranding the tying run at third base. Geltz gutted through an 11-pitch strikeout of former teammate Bourgeois with one out in the 10th, holding Jacob May at third base.

The game-winning rally by the Bulls was ignited by a leadoff single from Mayo Acosta.

The sixth inning was launched by a bunt single from Eury Perez with one out. It was just the Bulls' second bunt hit of the entire season. Jake Hager looped a double inside the left field line ahead of Goebbert's single to center.

Hager finished 3-5 with a pair of doubles.

Jaime Schultz, making his first start since last Wednesday, worked four scoreless innings, fanning three.

The Bulls moved back into second place and within two of the Knights and won't see Charlotte again until August 12th.

Durham continues its road trip on Thursday night at Harbor Park against the last-place Norfolk Tides. Justin Marks (2-6, 4.30) will oppose Joe Gunkel (4-5, 4.04) at 7:05 PM ET.
