Sanchez Recalled to Chicago, Mendick Promoted to Charlotte

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Infielder Carlos Sanchez, who is third all-time in Knights franchise history in hits with 342, has been recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. Sanchez will take the roster spot of White Sox third baseman Matt Davidson, who was placed on the team's 15-day disabled list today with a broken right foot. Davidson was promoted to the White Sox from the Knights yesterday. In one other move announced today, infielder Daniel Mendick was promoted to Charlotte from Winston-Salem. Charlotte's active roster now set at 25 active players.

Today's promotion to Chicago is the second of the season for Sanchez. In all, 15 different players have been promoted from Charlotte to Chicago including: RHP Erik Johnson (April 19, May 5 & May 23), catcher Kevan Smith (April 24), RHP Miguel Gonzalez (April 25 & May 9), catcher Hector Sanchez (April 26), RHP Daniel Webb (April 27), infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 28 & July 1), RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 29, May 5, May 23 & June 3), RHP Scott Carroll (May 6), LHP Matt Purke (May 13), outfielder J.B. Shuck (May 30), outfielder Jason Coats (June 4 & June 10), shortstop Tim Anderson (June 10), RHP Michael Ynoa (June 14), RHP Chris Beck (June 21), and 3B Matt Davidson (June 30).

Sanchez, 24, is hitting .258 (55-for-213) with 26 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 24 RBIs, and eight stolen bases with the Knights in 55 games this season. Sanchez, who has appeared in parts of five seasons with the Knights (2012-present), is among the franchise leaders in a number of offensive categories including fifth in games (317), fourth in at-bats (1,252), tied for seventh in runs scored (157), third in hits (342), tied for third in triples (10), and tied for seventh in stolen bases (45).

Davidson hit .268 (76-for-284) with 35 runs scored, 20 doubles, 10 home runs, and 46 RBIs with the Charlotte Knights in 75 games this season. He was named as an International League All-Star on Wednesday, June 29. For his Knights career, which began in 2014, Davidson has compiled 53 career home runs -- which is ranked fourth all-time in Charlotte Knights franchise history.

Mendick, 22, was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 22nd round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, was promoted to the Charlotte Knights today from High-A Winston-Salem. He appeared in 12 games with the Dash this season and hit .118 (4-for-34) with four runs scored, one double, and two RBIs. In 53 games with Kannapolis (Low-A) earlier this season, Mendick hit .298 (59-for-198) with 20 runs scored, 13 doubles, one home run, 18 RBIs, and three stolen bases.

The first place Charlotte Knights will continue a four-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA tonight.
