BayBears Blast Past Biscuits in 10-3 Win

July 2, 2016

MontgomeryAla. The Mobile BayBears powered out four home runs in a 10-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Mobile posted two runs in each of the first three innings to provide a large lead to starting RHP Taylor Clarke who earned his second win at the Double-A level. With the win, the BayBears evened the five game series at 2-2 with the series finale set for Sunday night in Montgomery.

Mobile (4-5, 36-43) scored two runs in each of the first three frames. In the first inning, Kevin Cron drove home a run with a RBI single and Kevin Medrano scored from third when Rudy Flores reached safely on fielding error by Biscuits first baseman Jake Bauers. Two more runs scored in the second inning when Oscar Hernandez hit a two-run home run to left to give Mobile a 4-0 advantage. Stewart Ijames stretched the BayBears lead to 6-0 when he added a two-run homer in the top of the third frame.

Montgomery (6-3, 40-39) would score two runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull back within four runs of Mobile but that's as close as the Biscuits would come to getting back into Saturday's contest. Clarke (2-4) limited Montgomery to just two runs, only one of which was earned on six hits, walking three and striking out three in seven full inning of work on the mound.

Travis Denker and Flores padded the lead for Clarke with back-to-back home runs in the top of the seventh inning. Denker's long ball was a two run shot while Flores hit a solo homer to right, marking the first time Mobile had hit back-to-back home runs in 2016. The final run of the game came in the top of the eighth inning when Even Marzilli scored for third time of game, breaking from third base and sliding across home plate on a wild pitch.
