Jeimer Candelario Makes Major League Debut

July 3, 2016

DES MOINES - Infielder Jeimer Candelario was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to Chicago today and made his major league debut with a start at third base against the Mets. The 22-year-old took the active roster spot of outfielder Chris Coghlan, who was placed on the disabled list with a right rib cage strain. Candelario recorded his first hit off Noah Syndergaard in the seventh inning and went 1-4 in the game.

With Iowa for just under a month, Candelario gave the team a boost following his promotion from Double-A Tennessee on June 8. He was 2-for-4 in his Triple-A debut and went on to hit .333 with three homers and 15 RBI in 25 games with the I-Cubs.

Candelario is the fourth former I-Cub to make his major league debut with Chicago this season. He followed Albert Almora Jr., Willson Contreras and Gerardo Concepcion, who all made stops in Iowa before their first calls to the show.

Iowa and Round Rock play the series finale at 7:05 p.m CT at Dell Diamond. Follow the action on AM 940 or at www.iowacubs.com
