Iowa Cubs Call-Up Jose Rosario

July 5, 2016

DES MOINES - The Iowa Cubs, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, called up right-handed pitcher Jose Rosario from Double-A Tennessee today. This is Rosario's first promotion to Triple-A.

Beginning the season with Advanced-A Myrtle Beach after missing all of 2015 following Tommy John surgery, Rosario has worked his way through the system. In 12 games with the Pelicans, the 25-year-old went 1-0 with a 1.65 ERA (16.1IP) to earn a promotion to Tennessee on May 25. With the Smokies, Rosario tabbed no record with a 2.76 ERA in 11 games (16.1IP). For the first time of his career, Rosario has moved into the closing role and has nabbed nine saves in as many opportunities across both levels.

Rosario was originally signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on April 29, 2008 and has moved between the starting rotation and the bullpen. In 138 career games, the righty is 26-32 with a 4.86 ERA. He has made 64 starts and has collected 12 saves.

Iowa faces Omaha at 7:08 tonight at Principal Park for Dollar Dog Night. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com
