Yard Goats Win Third Straight Game with 11-3 Victory
Binghamton, NY- The Hartford Yard Goats (46-37) defeated the Binghamton Mets (36-49) by
the score of 11-3 on Tuesday evening in the second of a four game series at NySeg Stadium in
Binghamton, New York. The Yard Goats, who played as the home team, scored four runs in
both the fifth and sixth innings to win three consecutive games for the first time since their
season high 9 game win streak, April 20-30. Ryan McMahon led the 16-hit offensive attack with
three hits, including a double, home run and 4 RBI. Pat Valaika had three doubles and drove in
a pair of runs. Reliever Matt Pierpont pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win for
Hartford. The B-Mets went 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 16 men on
base.
The Yard Goats scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning off Binghamton
starter Casey Delgato. Ryan McMahon led off the inning with a single and he scored on Noel
Cuevas' RBI double, making it 1-0 Hartford. Cuevas' double came on the first pitch he saw in his
first at-bat as a Yard Goat. He went to third base on a grounder and scored on Michael
Benjamin's two out single, lifting Hartford to a 2-0 lead.
The B-Mets got a run in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Philip Evans off
Hartford starter Alex Balog and it was a 2-1 game.
The Yard Goats added a run in the bottom of the third inning with a two out rally. Rosell
Herrera singled and cruised in from first base on a booming double from Pat Valiaka, making it
3-1 Hartford.
The Yard Goats scored four times in the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead. Zach Osborne legged out
a one out double and scored on Raimel Tapia's single as he extended his hitting streak to 15
games and made it 5-1 Harford. Pat Valaika doubled in Tapia from first base and Ryan
McMahon followed with a two run home run to make it 7-1. The B-Mets scored a pair of runs
off reliever Konner Wade in the sixth inning to pull within four runs.
Hartford put four more runs up in the sixth inning off reliever Jim Henderson. Ryan McMahon
highlighted that frame with a two run double, giving the Yard Goats a 11-3 lead.
Meanwhile, the B-Mets had chances off Alex Balog and stranded 10 batters over the first five
innings. Binghamton had first and second with no outs, bases loaded and two outs and first
and second with one out and first and second with two outs but settled for just one run on the
home run by Evans. Balog was lifted after walking his fifth batter with two outs in the fifth
inning and Hartford leading 3-1.
The Yard Goats continue a 4 game series against the Binghamton Mets on Wednesday evening
at NySeg Stadium in Binghamton, NY (6:05 PM). LHP Sam Howard will start for the Yard Goats.
