Mexican Baseball Fiesta Comes to Dell Diamond September 24-25

Hermosillo and Mexicali to Play in Two-Game Exhibition Series
July 6, 2016

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express, in conjunction with Ryan Sanders Baseball, are hosting the first-ever Mexican Baseball Fiesta at Dell Diamond September 24-25. The two-game exhibition series pits the Naranjeros de Hermosillo against the Águilas de Mexicali, both members of the Mexican Pacific League.

Hermosillo is considered one of the most successful baseball clubs in the league, having won 16 titles. They were also the first Mexican team to win the Caribbean Series, doing so in 1976 and again in 2014. Mexicali has claimed the championship three times and won the 1986 Caribbean Series. They finished second in the league in 2015.

"Mexican Baseball Fiesta is a rare opportunity for baseball fans in the U.S. to experience the authentic and exciting experience at Mexican Pacific League baseball games," said JJ Gottsch, COO of Ryan Sanders Baseball. "The atmosphere is much more festive than what fans are used to at games in the United States. The fun doesn't stop when the play starts on the field. It's only just beginning."

The Mexican Baseball Fiesta began in 2011 in Tucson and was the brainchild of former professional LMP (Liga Mexicana del Pacífico) and minor league baseball pitcher Francisco Gamez. Mike Feder, president of the Mexican Baseball Fiesta and the former general manager for the Tucson Padres, worked with Gamez to launch the tour which has been steadily growing in popularity.

"The Mexican Baseball Fiesta is not just a baseball game; it's a party," said Feder. "It's quite an experience. The pitcher is warming up, ready to pitch and the music is still playing," Feder said. "It's the way it's done in Mexico. Mascots are on the field for most of the game. Players expect it. Umpires expect it."

"Excitement is the best way to describe the Mexican Baseball Fiesta. The energy of the fans, the music and fun make this a unique experience for all baseball fans that transcends borders and language," said Feder.

"The Mexican Pacific League, is as popular as Major League Baseball is in the U.S., if not more so," said Gamez, Mexican Baseball Fiesta, LLC partner.

Tickets go on sale later this month.
