Former Intimidator Narvaez reaches MLB

Narvaez 6th former Intimidator to reach MLB this season
July 6, 2016

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 7, 2016) - The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contract of former Kannapolis Intimidators catcher Omar Narvaez, making him the 92nd player to reach the Major Leagues via Kannapolis since 1995. Narvaez is the 68th player in franchise history to reach the big leagues since the Intimidators became a Class A Affiliate of the White Sox in 2001.

Narvaez, 24, is batting .245 (35/143), with two home runs and 11 RBI in 41 games for the Charlotte Knights this season and was one of the International leagues most difficult batters to strike out. In 143 at-bats, Narvaez was fanned just 17 times. The promotion to the majors comes when he has hit safely in eight of his last nine games with the Knights.

The White Sox selected Narvaez during the minor-league portion of the Rule 5 Draft from the Tampa Bay Rays on December, 12, 2013. During his only season in Kannapolis, 2014, he batted .291 (37/127) with three doubles and 20 RBI in 38 games in the South Atlantic League before earning a promotion to Advanced A Winston-Salem.

During his seven year professional career, Narvaez has been an extremely disciplined batter working more walks, 176, than strikeouts, 168.

Narvaez joins Chris Devenski, Kevan Smith, J.B. Wendelken, Jason Coats, Tyler Danish, and Tim Anderson as the seventh former Intimidator to reach the Major Leagues this season.
