Chicago Recalls Warren, La Stella Ends Rehab Stint
DES MOINES - The Chicago Cubs recalled righty Adam Warren from Triple-A Iowa today and infielder Tommy La Stella returned to Chicago after the completion of a rehab stint with the I-Cubs. Infielder Vimael Machin was activated off the disabled list and right-handed pitcher Michael Wagner also returned to the Iowa Cubs from Advanced-A Myrtle Beach. To make room on the active roster, righty Starling Peralta returned to Double-A Tennessee after three games with the I-Cubs.
Warren made two starts for Iowa and posted no record and a 4.15 ERA through 8.2 innings. He walked four and struck out six. La Stella, recovering from a hamstring strain, played in six games for Iowa and posted a .286 average with one homer and three RBI. He appeared at both second and third base in the field.
Wagner holds a 0-1 record with a 5.47 ERA (15ER/24.2IP) through seven games and six starts with Iowa this season. He has also appeared in three games for Myrtle Beach and two for Single-A South Bend for a combined 1-1 record and 4.93 ERA this season, including his time with the I-Cubs. Wagner is scheduled to start game two of the doubleheader against Omaha tonight.
With Iowa for almost one month, Machin has been limited to 12 at-bats and has been used primarily as a pinch-hitter. He has knocked four hits with one RBI and five walks.
Peralta, 25, made his Triple-A debut with Iowa on June 23. He was knocked for five earned runs over 2.2 innings in that outing, but rebounded to allow just one run over his last two appearances (5.2IP).
