Sam Clay, Miles Nordgren and Daniel Kihle promoted to Fort Myers

Chris Ibarra to 7-day DL; Four players arrive from Elizabethton

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce a series of roster moves involving eight players. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

Pitchers Sam Clay and Miles Nordgren plus OF Daniel Kihle have been promoted to Fort Myers (FSL). INF Chris Ibarra has been placed on the 7-day DL with a sprained right ankle. And, pitchers Max Cordy and Andrew Vasquez and outfielders Christian Cavaness and Casey Scoggins join the Kernels from Elizabethton (APPY).

Clay made 14 starts for the Kernels this season, posting a 5-4 record and 3.39 ERA. Nordgren pitched in 15 games (11 starts) with a 3-5 record, 3.01 ERA and one complete game. Kihle played in 49 games, batting .259 with 2 HR and 17 RBI. And Ibarra has played in 14 games, batting .104 (5-48).

Cavaness was on the Kernels 2016 Opening Day roster but was assigned to Extended Spring Training on May 19. In 31 games for the Kernels, he hit .190 with 6 RBI and was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in 2015 out of Lindenwood (IL) University.

The Twins selected Cordy in the 40th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of UC-Davis. He pitched in 12 games (2 starts) for the GCL Twins last season, posting a 1-1 record and 1.66 ERA. In 21.2 IP, he allowed 12 hits and four runs (all earned) with 14 walks and 25 strikeouts.

The Twins selected Scoggins in the 39th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Tampa. In four games at Elizabethton, he hit .167 (2-12) but hit .348 with 5 HR and 33 RBI for Tampa.

The Twins selected Vasquez in the 32nd round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Westmont (CA) College. He made 12 relief appearances for the GCL Twins in 2015, posting no record and a 2.92 ERA. In 17 IP, he allowed 10 hits and 10 runs (four earned) with 15 walks and 22 strikeouts.

All four players are active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game vs. Wisconsin. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with eight players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.

The Kernels continue an eight game home stand tonight at 6:35 PM against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Gates open at 5:30 PM.
