20th Season Fun Facts About Victory Field
On Friday, July 8 the Indianapolis Indians commemorate 20 seasons of baseball at beautiful Victory Field. Here are some fun facts about the ballpark since the first game was played on July 11, 1996:
FOOD FACTS
Since Victory Field opened, fans attending Indians games have consumed:
- 2.5 million sodas,
- 7.5 million hot dogs,
- 2.1 million cheeseburgers,
- 11,000 gallons of ketchup,
- 3.1 million beers,
- 1 million pretzels,
- 55,000 gallons of nacho cheese,
- 600,000 ice cream cones,
- 550,000 bags of peanuts, and…
- 14 million napkins have been used; a contributing factor, no doubt, to the ballpark's ongoing reputation for impeccable cleanliness.
TICKET PRICING
Box, Reserved and Lawn tickets to an Indians game at Victory Field in 1996 cost $8, $7 and $5 respectively. Twenty years later ticket prices are $16, $12 and $10, not including the Indians $2 Advance Ticket Discount when purchased at least a day in advance.
Over the past two decades that's an average annual price increase of only $0.40 for Box seats, and a quarter ($0.25) for Reserved and Lawn; reinforcement that Indians baseball remains arguably one of downtown Indianapolis' most affordable outdoor summertime attractions.
DEDICATED FAN BASE
On May 20, 2016 Victory Field and the Indianapolis Indians welcomed the 12 millionth fan to the ballpark. The milestone continues to cement Indianapolis' place within Minor League Baseball as one of the hotbeds for tradition and fan loyalty. Among 160 minor league teams, only one has had higher attendance than Victory Field since the ballpark opened (Buffalo Bisons).
By comparison, Indians attendance during its 65 years at its previous home, Bush Stadium (1931-1996), totaled 13.1 million. In less than a third of the time, Victory Field is approaching that figure.
The Indians have set franchise records for single-season attendance the past two seasons - 660,289 in 2014 and 662,536 fans last year.
