Clarke Baffles Blue Wahoos In BayBears 4-3 Victory

Mobile, Ala. - RHP Taylor Clarke turned in one of the best performance of his young professional career on Thursday night. The righty led the Mobile BayBears to a 4-3 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Hank Aaron stadium. Clarke threw a career-high eight inning and recorded a career-best 10 strikeouts as the BayBears won for the third time in the last four games.

Mobile (7-7, 39-45) gave Clarke (4-3) some early runs to work with. In the bottom of the second inning Chuck Taylor connected on a two-out, two-run double to drive in Travis Denker and Rudy Flores. Just one batter later the BayBears took a 3-0 lead when Clarke helped his own cause, driving in Taylor with a RBI single. In 10 at bats this season, Clarke has four hits, a double and 2 RBI.

Pensacola (5-9, 46-38) failed to get anything off of the BayBears starter through the first seven innings. Clarke threw a first-pitch strike to 17 of the 27 batters he faced. The only run that scored for Pensacola came in the eighth inning and was unearned as a runner score from third on a passed ball at home. Clarke finished the game allowing just the one unearned run on two hits and struck out 10 batters in eight full innings on the mound. The righty didn't walk a single batter, throwing a total of 117 pitches, 83 of them for strikes.

Pensacola would score two runs in the top of the ninth inning when Phillip Ervin sent a two-run homer over the wall off of RHP Joey Krehbiel but the added insurance from a bottom of the eighth inning solo home run from Rudy Flores helped Mobile hold on for the 4-3 victory.

The BayBears and Blue Wahoos conclude their five game series with game five on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Gates will open up at 6:00 PM.
