July 9, 2016

Mike Yastrzemski and Corban Joseph each had three hits and an RBI to pace Norfolk's 15-hit attack as the Tides derailed the Syracuse Chiefs 5-2 Saturday night at Harbor Park.

Yastrzemski finished a home run short of the cycle as he helped Norfolk snap a four-game losing skid. The 25-year-old outfielder reached on a bunt single in the second, hit an RBI triple in the fourth, then doubled and scored in the seventh as he extended his hitting streak to five straight games. Yastrzemski, the #19 prospect in the Orioles system per MLB.com, has now seen 21 of his 44 hits with Norfolk go for extra-bases since his promotion to the Tides on May 16.

Joseph singled three times in the win as he too extended his hitting streak to five consecutive games, over which he's batted .421 (8-19) with three runs scored. Paul Janish added two hits and two RBI, while Xavier Avery and Trey Mancini added multiple hits in the win.

Norfolk starter David Hale (1-4) picked up his first win in a Tides uniform after allowing two runs on five hits over five innings of work. Making just his second appearance since coming off the disabled list on July 4 with a right calf injury, the Princeton University product walked two and struck out one while throwing 48 of his 78 pitches for strikes. Hale limited Syracuse to RBI groundouts to Matt Skole in the first and Zach Collier in the fourth as he picked up the first victory by a Norfolk starter in July.

Richard Rodriguez, Pedro Beato and Jason Stoffel combined to fire four shutout innings out of the bullpen, with Stoffel picking up his third save after working a scoreless ninth.

The two clubs wrap up the first half of the season on Sunday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 6:05. Joe Gunkel (5-6, 3.93) gets the start for Norfolk and will be opposed by right-hander Paolo Espino (5-7, 3.06).
